When Leroy and Forrest Raffael opened their first shop in 1964, little did they know it would be the epicenter of such a big story in the future. Thanks to Doug, more people felt inclined to support a business that had such exemplary practices. Also, it’s the only restaurant being followed by Jon Stewart on a famous social media app.
Despite having been around for so long, the company’s signature sandwich with cheese only hit the menu in 1978. Surprisingly Arby’s was initially meant to be called Big Tex, but sadly the name was taken, and the founders settled on their initials R and B as the base of the name.
