Paul Hornung, Alex Karas’ 1963 Suspension

The NFL has always been dead serious when it comes to its anti-gambling beliefs, so much so that it sampled heavy punishments against Detroit Lions defensive tackle Alex Karas and Green Bay Packers quarterback Paul Hornung in the 1960s.

NFL commissioner Pete Rozelle suspended Hornung for a year after the latter bet on games and he also did the same thing to Karas, who later became an actor. At least the duo felt responsible for their actions and owned up to their mistakes.
