Diver Finds Old Planes At Bottom Of Pacific, Then Understand Why They Were There

The Cost of War

During World War II, it is believed that the United States spent about $347 billion. Dumping those planes at the bottom of the ocean may have been the cheaper option, but it certainly didn’t make taxpayers happy. That’s probably why the location of ‘Operation Rollup’ stayed a secret for this long.

On the bright side, had it not been for Mueller’s discovery, the Marshall Islands wouldn’t have received this much attention. Since the finding of the ‘Airplane Graveyard,’ this area has become quite the attraction for divers, tourists, and historians. Mueller has unexpectedly helped improve the economy of this poverty-ridden place, for which, she was indeed rewarded.
