The Oxford Languages dictionary defines hypocrisy as “the practice of claiming to have higher standards or more noble beliefs than is the case.” And if that’s not an accurate description of Iran, then we don’t know what is!
The idea that Iranian authorities exercise their power because of their loyalty to the Quran is believed in the West, but very far away from the truth. The reality is that Iran’s government and morality police are highly corrupt and that they only enforce “good values” whenever it’s convenient.
