Exclusive Photos from Heart of Iran Show Secret Lives of Residents the Government Is Desperately Trying to Hide
Is Iran as Religious as It Seems?
Unlike democracies, theocracies recognize deities as ruling authorities. In an Islamic country, obeying the Quran is a bit like following the constitution, but with much more symbolism and fundamentalism. And just like not everybody in the United States agrees with the constitution, not everybody in Iran concurs with everything in the Quran.
In other words, many non-religious people live in the religious state of Iran. They’re not unwise about it either: they know that the religious rules in Iran are enforced mainly because of political reasons, not religious reasons.
