With no access to American dollars, the Iranian population is forced to trade in tomans (a super unit of the country’s official currency, the rial). But the value of the toman has been decreasing over the years while the price of goods has been rising—giving way to mind-boggling inflation.

One Iranian seller told News 12 that a set of utensils that used to cost 600K tomans in 2018 now costs more than four million tomans! In some years, the cost of living went up more than 1,000%.
