A new study called “The Price of Being Broke in College Sports” has revealed that “full” scholarship athletes are shortchanged an average of $3,222 per player during the 2010-11 academic year. Plus, a whopping 85% of players who live on campus and 86% who live off campus live below the federal poverty line.
If that’s not crazy enough, the research suggests that FBS football and basketball players’ fair market value is $120,048 and $265,027, respectively. “We knew players were underpaid, but this report’s numbers are bananas!” exclaimed NCPA President Ramogi Huma.
