Words are funny, aren’t they? When one hears the expression “human race,” one immediately thinks of humanity as a whole. But when someone’s running a marathon, for example, the “human race” is but a factual description of what’s happening.
Unfortunately, the latter example of a “human race” is somewhat exclusive, as it lefts out all other animals. Let’s stop calling marathons human races and start inviting our best furry buddies to join in on the action. Marathons would be much funnier if cats and dogs were allowed to join in.
