So much gratitude is passed around for the simplest things. Imagine someone being thanked for being their assigned gender or complexion. It’s easy to see why it was strange for the patient whose doctor thanked him for being a patient. It’s the English Language’s fault for sharing words.
The word “patient” has a Latin origin meaning one who suffers. It initially conveys a passive acceptance of suffering and tolerance while waiting for medical interventions. People are shifting to using the word client in recent times.
