The late Valerie Harper found herself caught up in the sense of security that comes with having an eponymous show. Landing the title role in the ’80s sitcom Valerie, understandably, made her feel like the sky was the limit going forward. That’s why she asked NBC for more money.
The network must have felt like she didn’t deserve the pay hike quite yet, and two seasons into headlining the show, Harper got fired. The show was rebranded as The Hogan Family, and it went on to air for another four seasons.
