Here Comes the Police!

Just like the sitcom, the cop drama format was also an original TV creation. It was propelled by the success of Adam-12, an NBC production that featured the dedicated agents, Martin Milner and Kent McCord, and that focused on the adaptation of real-life police cases.

Adam-12 was released in 1968, but it had already presented most of the traits we associate with cop dramas today. In a recent piece, the news website Vox said that shows such as Adam-12 and Dragnet helped to consolidate the reputation of real-life police as a competent, hard-working, and honorable institution.
