Black-and-white film and professional wrestling don’t seem to be a perfect match. But the colorful universe of sports-entertainment wouldn’t be possible without the influence of the man who was at one point dubbed “The Living Legend”: Bruno Sammartino.
Competing in WWE’s first “ancestor,” the World Wide Wrestling Federation, Sammartino was arguably the first great wrestling superstar. He died in 2018, but his memory will live on, as well as his critical opposition to the heavy use of drugs associated with the sports-entertainment industry. Sammartino truly was a representative of purer, simpler times.
