The Golden Age of Wrestling, Meet the Most Influential Pro Wrestlers of All-time

El Santo (Rodolfo Huerta) – Active 1934 to 1982

Long before Rey Mysterio conquered the imagination of millions of wrestling fans, there was another masked Mexican making history. His name was El Santo, the saint. He was more than just a wrestler: he was a legendary folk hero, a notable Mexican actor, and as close to a God-like figure as any wrestler will ever be.

Nowadays, there are statues of El Santo in Mexican cities, and his original mask is considered to be an invaluable museum piece. Paving the way for the masked-Mexican wrestling figure, Rodolfo Huerta has reportedly only shown his face once: one week before passing away in 1984.
