The Golden Age of Wrestling, Meet the Most Influential Pro Wrestlers of All-time
Dusty Rhodes (Virgil Runnels Jr.) – Active 1967 to 2010
The charismatic Dusty Rhodes was often seen as an outsider in the world of sports-entertainment. The son of a plumber, he was characterized by his unimpressive physique and by his working-class nature, two features that have earned him the nickname “The American Dream.”
Working for promotions like NWA and WWE, Rhodes did live the dream, conquering multiple titles up until his retirement in 2010. After leaving the ring, he struggled with kidney failure and ended up passing away in 2015, at the age of 69.
