From Sidney Poitier’s breakthrough role in 1955’s ‘Blackboard Jungle,’ he’s moved on to play critically acclaimed roles in movies like ‘Lilies of the Field’ and ‘In the Heat of the Night,’ which have earned him Golden Globe Awards, an Oscar and a BAFTA. A man of many talents, he has also won a Grammy for Best Spoken Word Album!

Retiring from cinema in 1977, he has published three autobiographies and done diplomatic service in Japan for UNESCO.
