Due to unhealthy feeding habits, Richard Simmons was an obese child, which followed him into young adulthood. While in Los Angeles, he developed an interest in fitness but had terrible luck finding a gym that would assist him in achieving his goals. Not losing courage, he started his own gym and ended up losing 123 pounds.
Simmons then decided to assist others in losing weight and discovering healthier lives, so he established an exercise studio, salad bar, and health club while acting and appearing in talk shows. He took a break from the public in 2014, and although he has not fully resurfaced yet, he has been posting fitness videos on his video channel since March 2020.
