In the sky, Ashley was able to recognize a small, distant white dot that looked like nothing she’d ever seen before. She imagined her colleagues were inside, taken away by something dismal but extraordinary. But her eyes were still hurting, and she couldn’t know for sure.
Inside the university, the protest organizer was also gone, and the dean seemed to have missed the event completely. Ashley went back to her empty dorm room; this time, there were no people around, just their expensive belongings: electronics, fashionable clothes, pricy cremes, perfumes… The stuff was all there, but everything human was gone.
