Not So Little Mermaids

Back in the ’50s, Disneyland featured live mermaids in the Submarine Voyage ride at Tomorrowland’s lagoon. This was considered a noteworthy investment, and the mermaids swam in the lagoon for a few years until 1967. The chlorine in the water, coupled with the risk of injury, resulted in its closure.

But contrary to the current rules, for the period the mermaids swam in Disney World’s waters, they were depicted in revealing attire. That was likely due to the summer heat, but we doubt the dress code applies to mermaids.
