Orlando Cruz
Nicknamed “The Phenomenon,” Orlando Cruz is a Puerto-Rican boxer with at least 25 career wins, 13 of which via knock-out. But while his athletic career is remarkable, Cruz is mainly known for being the first active professional boxer to come out of the closet.
Ever since he declared to be a gay man in 2013, Cruz has been highly involved in promoting LGBTQ+ rights. In 2016, he dedicated one of his boxing wins to the gay men murdered at the Pulsa nightclub shooting in Florida.
