Mueller’s findings were a real treat for aviation enthusiasts worldwide. Not only did the site have classic planes but also some rare ones like the Douglas SBD Dauntless, which was only manufactured for four years, from 1940 to 1944. The dive bomber attacked Japanese carriers and became the hero of the Battle of Midway. After the war, most of them disappeared or broke down eventually.
In the late 40s, Helldivers took over as they were much larger and faster, and the Douglas found itself at the bottom of the ocean. This is why Mueller’s discovery is a historical landmark and still considered an incredible find!
