Iran’s morality police are allowed to jail (and even beat) anyone who dares to consume alcohol in public. But they have a completely different attitude toward the opium addicts that flock to the darkest streets of Tehran at night. For the most part, they’re left unbothered.
Young Iranian men and women resort to drugs because they have no job, no place to go, and no fun activities to enjoy. In a nutshell, there are so many drug addicts in Iran that it’d be impossible to jail all of them.
