Sleeping on the Bus
According to the Iran researcher Benny Sabti, the poverty in the country is such that many Iranian citizens have gotten to the point of paying to spend the night on the bus. The IranWire online newspaper reported that spending a whole night on a bus route in Tehran costs 12K to 25K tomans, the equivalent of $0.90.
Many men and women who pay to sleep on the bus are homeless and/or addicted to drugs, but there are other people there, too, including peddlers and laborers.
