Exclusive Photos from Heart of Iran Show Secret Lives of Residents the Government Is Desperately Trying to Hide

What Changed Since 1979

Iran was a very strict country in the aftermath of the 1979 revolution. The new theocratic regime was very serious about respecting the Quran as truthfully as possible, and things as trivial as dancing to music and wearing jeans were strictly forbidden. The same applied to the contact between unmarried men and women.

Today, one can hear pop and rap music in the streets of Tehran, and unmarried men and women get to talk and dance with one another at underground and secret private parties.
