Is the West to Blame for Iran’s Misfortune?
We’ve stated that the Iranian government is the main culprit for the country’s situation. But does that mean the West is off the hook? Well, not exactly. While the sanctions imposed on Iran by the United States and other secular nations were mostly well-founded, they did impact the Iranian population profoundly (especially from an economic standpoint).
No, it’s not okay to do nothing in the face of human rights abuses and an escalating nuclear program. But in hurting Iran’s rulers, the West has also inadvertently hurt Iran’s poorest.
