Gameplay Blunders: Top NBA Fails in History
Bouncy is Better
Some things are better left untouched, and the NBA found that out when they tried to replace the old leather basketballs with modern ones for the 2006-07 season. The new models were supposed to absorb moisture, making them more consistent.
Unfortunately, the change didn’t last long, as players complained about the ball’s feel and that the synthetic material continuously cut their hands and had an awkward bounce. It was a rash decision by the leaders to do so, and they ultimately had to bring back the leather, which has been in service since the ’70s.
