The 1984 NBA Finals were among the most anticipated in the competition’s history. What made it special was that for the first time since Magic Johnson and Larry Bird entered the league, their teams, the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers, would face each other.
While Magic was probably more experienced, he is the one who finished the series with a new nickname, Tragic Johnson, after dribbling out the clock in Game 2, committing a costly turnover, and also missing two crucial free throws.
