It’s Hard To Forget These Biggest NFL Draft Busts
Vernon Gholston – New York Jets, 2008 Draft
Looking for someone to boost their defensive lineup, the New York Jets didn’t pass up the chance to acquire Vernon Gholston when he became available in the 2008 draft. So they picked the push rusher 6th overall ahead of names such as Jerod Mayo, Aqib Talib, and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.
In his rookie year, however, Gholston could only muster the disappointing eight assists and five tackles, with zero sacks. The following two seasons were just as unsuccessful, and he was eventually removed from the team in 2010. After that, he tried his luck with Chicago Bears and St. Louis Rams, but that didn’t pan out well for the athlete.
