Akili Smith – Cincinnati Bengals, 1999 Draft
Like any management that desires the best for its team, Cincinnati Bengals sure banked on Akili Smith to bring them victory after the 1999 draft. Sadly, with their choice of getting the quarterback, it felt like their game season would make a rapid downward shift in its performance.
Contrary to the Bengal’s aspirations, the promising player did not perform well. More disappointing for the team was that they turned down a trade offer from the New Orleans Saints for Akili. He eventually started a total of 17 games between 1999 and 2002 before his release from the team.
