A non-American has mentioned that he loves the fact that Americans enjoy sports, regardless of how well their favorite team is doing. Such doesn’t necessarily happen in the rest of the world.
Every European or South American football fan knows it: you will support your local team with everything you got, and every other team must be mercilessly boo-ed, regardless of how well they play. It’s not like that in the U.S., where home fans are even okay with applauding when the visiting team is performing better. Fortunately, there’s close to no toxic sports culture in America, which makes for a more pleasant visit to the stadiums.
Due to regionalism and tradition, sports fans in Europe and South America can get a little bit violent from time to time. The heyday of hooliganism is fortunately gone, but it’s still considered dangerous to watch some games, particularly between rival teams.
