In the U.S., it’s possible to buy a remote farm and still feel safe every single day of your life. As non-Americans have pointed out, this is not the case in other countries.
Safe rural areas are not exclusive to the USA, but they’re an often-overlooked advantage of being an American. In countries like Brazil or Mexico, there are a lot of farm-based towns, but these are often tainted by insecurity, criminal activity, and uncertainty. As a non-American has put it, it’s not unusual to hear gunshots in some farm towns outside of the U.S. It’s not the peaceful rural life most people dream of.
In general, the USA is a very safe country, especially when compared with Central/South America and African countries, such as South Africa. The prominence of gangs and limited gun control rules has branded the U.S. as a “dangerous” place, but that’s not at all a fair description when we look at the broader picture.
