A Century Old Frozen Cemetary
War is a devastating historical event, and this photo is a reminder of its destructive nature, even though it may not look like it. It shows a trench of the Austro-Hungarian Army at the summit of Ortler in 1917 during the White War. Interestingly, now over a century later, melting glaciers are exposing frozen corpses from that period.
Many of the soldiers who fought around the Alps of Northern Italy are believed to have died from extreme weather conditions rather than the fighting.
