Shocking World War Remains In The Alps
While we’re still on the topic of the White War, the village of Peio in northern Italy regularly uncovers the remains of soldiers who lost their lives. This picture shows the remains of some still in their uniforms with interesting things preserved in their pockets, like love letters from girlfriends at home.
Both soldiers of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and Italian troops fought in the mountainous region, and avalanches buried many bodies. Part of their fighting strategy involved firing cannons at weak snow points to bury enemy troops in snow.
