Nature can be incredibly intricate in its design. It’s still mindblowing that no two snowflakes ever have the same pattern. But while we’d like to credit nature for yet another masterpiece, there’s nothing natural about how this ice web was formed.
Contrary to claims on Facebook that this picture shows a real frozen spider web, it is actually a frosty sculpture from a 2011 art exhibit at the Helsinki Zoo in Finland. The rest of the statue includes a rime-sculpted spider as well.
