From Majestic to Disturbing, The Most Jaw-dropping Winter Photographs You’ll Ever See
This Magical-looking Lake is Real
Abraham Lake in Alberta, Canada, was where these breathtaking frozen methane bubbles were photographed. Many beautiful things happen to the bodies of water in that region when temperatures sink below zero. The beauty we see here begins with water-dwelling bacteria. After feeding on decaying organic matter, they expel methane gas, which gets suspended as bubbles when the water freezes.
Interestingly, this lake was artificially created. Still, it boasts the same blue color other glacial lakes have because of rock flour. It is currently the largest reservoir in Alberta.
