Alligators Have a Secret
In 2022, a video of an alligator’s snout protruding from a frozen swamp in North Carolina caught everyone’s attention on social media. But how could it not when the reptile was amazingly still alive? The swamp, located in Ocean Isle Beach, is home to an alligator preserve, and the viral video showed a man digging the animal out of the freeze.
Apparently, alligators can survive in frozen swamps by sticking their noses out of the icicle to breathe. In doing so, their metabolism shuts down until they warm up.
