The majesty of the elephant certainly pales in comparison to its close relative, the woolly mammoth. This picture is all the proof we need. Unfortunately, the large animal is an extinct species that lived during an era which ended around 11,000 years ago. All we have left now are pictures, movies, and bones.

While alive, the woolly mammoths roamed the frosty tundra of Europe, North America and Asia. They were well adapted to the arctic and could brave temperatures of -50°C.
