Among the many things that have been discovered frozen in ice are weapons and tools used by prehistoric humans. We bet many people have never seen this contraption the man in our photo is handling, called an atlatl dart. Clearly, it’s some type of projectile weapon.
It consists of a dart—the thin, pointed shaft—and an atlatl, which is the tool serving as an arm extension to provide leverage for throwing the dart. This way, the dart is propelled forward with greater force than the hand alone can provide.
