From Majestic to Disturbing, The Most Jaw-dropping Winter Photographs You’ll Ever See
The Chilliest Permanently Inhabited Place on Earth
Oymyakon is a small village located in the Siberian countryside, and like Verkhoyansk, it is known for being one of the chilliest permanently inhabited places on Earth. The village has a population of around 500 people, who live in extreme conditions, with temperatures dropping as low as -62 degrees Celsius in the winter.
The journey to Oymyakon is treacherous, especially during the winter months when the road becomes nearly impassable. Even in the summer, frequent floods make the road difficult to navigate.
