This exciting town is built on top of permafrost and is home to the largest permafrost area in the world. Despite average winter temperatures of -40 °C, it remains a major industrial center.

Additionally, Yakutsk is also home to the World Mammoth Museum, which houses the remains of extinct mammals, such as woolly mammoths that were found in the area’s permafrost.
