A Man’s World
In 1960, there was still a lot to do when it came to empowering women. But looking at the beautiful Brigitte Bardot, it wouldn’t seem like it. In this picture, captured in the cosmopolitan city of Rome of the early ’60s, she looks like a goddess, standing impassive in the middle of a small crowd of starstruck men.
But despite her powerful charm, B.B. lived in a man’s world and had to work hard to become an actress/singer of worldwide recognition. A sort of European Marilyn Monroe, she became an animal rights activist in the early ’70s. Now 85 years old, she still performs occasionally as a singer.
