This small device from Mattel Electronics was one of the first portable electronic games to gain countrywide popularity. After only 100,000 of the Mattel Football I were made in 1977, popular demand convinced the company to release a second edition of 500,000 units!
The game seems utterly unimpressive in today’s world but continues to be one of the most memorable pieces of ’70s nostalgia out there. In 2010, Time magazine included the Mattel Electronic Football in its compilation of All-Time 100 gadgets.
