The electric guitar was dominant in the music scene during most of the 20th century. Skilled guitarists like Eddie Van Halen were praised like gods, with the guitar itself at the center of the devotion of the rock ‘n roll fans and musicians.
Today, rock is still very much alive, with icons of the genre like Eddie Van Halen still playing totally-packed shows for thousands of fans. But in the pop scene, the electric guitar has been less and less prominent over the years, mainly due to the popularization of hip-hop and electronic music.
