The Golden Age of Wrestling, Meet the Most Influential Pro Wrestlers of All-time
Bret “Hitman” Hart (Bret Hart) – Active 1978 Until 2000
A notable WWE and WCW wrestler, Bret Hart’s career will always be marked by an incident known as the Montreal Screwjob. The controversial case involved a supposedly unscripted match in which Hart, right before leaving WWE, lost the title to Shawn Michaels. The outcome of the fight was believed to be unrightfully switched, without Hart’s knowledge, by WWE’s chairman.
While many speculate that this case was nothing but a publicity stunt designed to promote the character of Mr. McMahon, the corrupt boss, there’s a general belief that the company indeed betrayed Hart. Despite the incident, he was later inducted into WWE’s Hall of Fame in 2006.
