The Golden Age of Wrestling, Meet the Most Influential Pro Wrestlers of All-time
André the Giant (André Roussimoff) – Active 1966 to 1992
Arguably the most iconic wrestler of all-time, André the Giant was one of sports entertainment’s first superstars. He was a rival of Hulk Hogan and often characterized as the villain, even though he was a fan favorite.
Originally from France, André Roussimoff was the Giant for almost 40 years, retiring only in 1992, one year before his death. The first big man of the ring, he was impressively large due to suffering from gigantism and acromegaly. Besides becoming a worldwide pop icon, André also had a chance to work as an actor, and he was the first wrestler to be inducted in WWE’s Hall of Fame, then known as WWF’s Hall of Fame.
