It’s Hard To Forget These Biggest NFL Draft Busts
John Huarte – New York Jets, 1965 Draft
Despite winning the Heisman Trophy in 1964 after leading Notre Dame’s football team to victory, John Huarte is sadly widely considered the award’s worst recipient in the sport’s history. Even though it sounds a bit harsh, it’s mainly owing to his lackluster performances as a quarterback after New York Jets drafted him the next year as the 12th overall AFL pick.
The Jets had also drafted another quarterback along with the promising athlete named Joe Namath, who had a thriving football career. As a result, Huarte bounced around for most of his seven-year career until bowing out in 1973, playing the last two games with Memphis Southmen.
