Fox Meets an Icy End

Now here’s not something one sees every day. This picture shows a fox that was frozen while taking a swim in Norway. Foxes may enter water for a variety of reasons. They may do so to hunt for food or to escape from predators.

Usually, foxes can survive in freezing weather because of adaptations like thick fur coats and the ability to lower their metabolism to conserve energy. But if the temperature drops too low, foxes may become hypothermic or frostbitten.
