In 1991, two tourists stumbled upon the frozen remains of a man in the Alps. Initially believed to be a recently deceased climber, further examination revealed the corpse to be that of a man who had died over 5,000 years ago.

More detailed studies revealed that Ötzi— as the man came to be known— was killed by an arrow wound. An examination of his stomach showed that he died abruptly, as the remains of his last meal were still undigested.
