In 1978, audiences were a lot more naïve when it came to understanding what goes on in show business. Popularized for her role as Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter was one of the nation’s most admired women, and people expected her to always behave like the super-hero they thought she was.
Naturally, Carter was just a regular person like the rest of us. But she did win a televised swim competition back in 1978, as everybody expected her to. Living up to your on-screen character is never easy, especially when you’re supposed to be Wonder Woman. But dreams did come true in the late ’70s America.
