The Previous Decades Were Cooler Than This One, and These Photos Prove it
Glowing Tires Were (Almost) A Thing
In the early ’60s, Goodyear decided to produce one of the most inventful tires of all-time. Its main feature? It glowed in the dark! This engineering feat was possible due to the installation of 18 tiny lightbulbs, which could be controlled by the driver. These lights were visible because the tires were made out of Neothane, a new synthetic rubber that was supposed to be quite resistant.
Even though the glow-in-the-dark hack worked wonderfully, Neothane proved to be less resistant than Goodyear believed. The tires melted easily and didn’t perform well on wet roads. In the end, the coolest tire ever made was considered to be both dangerous and commercially impracticable, and the company abandoned the project.
