When the bed race was first started in 1965, it was only open to active military. Today, anyone can compete! The competitors don’t compete for a cash prize because all winnings are donated to a charity of their choosing.
Teams are responsible for decorating their bed, and they race in teams of four or six. One winner is crowned for speed, but there are also divisions for engineering, decoration, the crowd favorite, and the funniest bed. This whacky sport is great for entertainment, as well as friendly competition.
